Empowering Our Community Through the NATURE SMILES Project
It is a fundamental component of our SMILES Intervention service. SMILES is a youth-driven project with six key objectives: to provide Support, Motivate young people, make a positive Impact on their lives, empower them to Lead, Educate them, and Safeguard them from any form of violence prevalent in our community, including knife and gun crime.
MAVUK’s Heritage Art Projects celebrate the people, stories and experiences that have shaped our organisation and the communities we serve. Through public art, memorial spaces and creative community participation, we preserve local history while creating places for reflection, learning and connection.
Our latest heritage artwork is a wall memorial dedicated to Patsy McKie, the founder of Mothers Against Violence UK. Patsy established the organisation in response to the devastating impact of violence on families and communities in Manchester. Her courage, compassion and determination created a movement that continues to support young people, empower families and promote safer communities.
Created through the artistry of skillful Manchester Artist, the memorial transforms Patsy’s story into a powerful and lasting public tribute. The artwork captures her strength, leadership and commitment to justice, while ensuring that future generations understand the importance of her contribution to Manchester’s social and community history.
The wall memorial forms part of MAVUK’s wider commitment to using art as a tool for remembrance, education and positive change. Alongside our memorial garden and other community-led creative projects, it provides a meaningful space where residents, families and visitors can reflect on the past, celebrate community resilience and feel inspired to continue Patsy’s legacy.
Through these heritage projects, MAVUK ensures that important local stories are not forgotten. They become visible, accessible and permanently connected to the places and people whose lives they have influenced.
Patsy McKie’s legacy lives on through every person supported by MAVUK, every young person encouraged to choose a positive path, and every community brought together in the pursuit of peace, dignity and hope.

About the Artist:
Manchester-born artist who continues to live and work in the city, drawing inspiration from its people, communities, history and distinctive urban character.
After studying illustration, he spent six years working as an artist for an independent brand before moving into freelance practice. His work now focuses primarily on large-scale murals, public art, live painting, creative workshops and collaborative projects with schools, charities and local communities.
The artist has developed a highly illustrative visual style that combines original drawing, bold colour, graphic detail and expressive characters. His artwork is designed to feel accessible and engaging while remaining distinctive, unexpected and full of personality.
Over the years, he has worked with a wide range of organisations, from national companies such as National Banks to Manchester schools, community groups and grassroots projects. His portfolio includes large public murals, commissioned illustrations, participatory workshops, live art events, tattoo designs and collaborative installations.
Working with MAVUK
The Artist`s approach aligns closely with MAVUK’s commitment to community, heritage, remembrance and positive social change. He works collaboratively, listening carefully to the stories, experiences and ideas of the people connected to each project.
This collaborative process was central to the creation of MAVUK’s latest wall memorial honouring its founder, Patsy McKie. Through careful consultation and original artistry, He helped transform Patsy’s story, values and lasting contribution into a powerful public artwork.
The memorial is more than a portrait. It is a permanent expression of Patsy’s courage, compassion and determination, as well as a tribute to the Manchester families and communities whose lives she touched. His use of illustration, colour and large-scale composition helps make this important local history visible, accessible and meaningful to future generations.
The artist particularly values projects where ideas are developed through genuine creative exchange. He can interpret and reproduce an existing concept where it complements his illustrative style, or work with clients and communities to create an entirely original design.
